How to restore your faded wood outdoor furniture

Restoring and refinishing an old outdoor patio furniture

You will find it time consuming to restore faded wood outdoor furniture but not as expensive and time consuming if you buy a new one.

In wood patio furniture restoration, you need to spend some time for it and find the right tools to use. You will need a paint brush, some dirt remover, brightener, a pair of gloves and of course teak oil.

The first thing you will need to do is wash the furniture gently with specific soap. These soaps can be found at a local hardware or home improvement store. Washing is done before sanding because removing all of the dust and dirt first will prevent problems during sanding. Before any of the next steps are executed, outdoor furniture should be completely dried to keep the wood from weathering again.

The next step, sanding the teak wood furniture, is the most difficult step of the entire process. Sand the dried piece of furniture lightly until the natural honey-color of the wood begins to shine through.

Never sand too hard and you should always be sanding in the same direction of the grain on the wood. Tools you will need for this process are fine grain sand paper, an orbital sander, gloves, and goggles. A cloth underneath the furniture can also be put down to reduce the cleanup time after sanding is complete. All sections of the furniture should be sanded evenly and no gray should be showing before continuing on to the next step.

Treating the wood with teak oil will help restore its natural color. In maintaining its natural color you need to apply teak oil in the beginning of every season, this is to ensure that its natural color will remain the whole season long.

Never worry about it when it’s exposing to the sun and then drowned by hard rain, the teak oil you applied keeps it weather proof, and will never inflict damage on your outdoor furniture.

Better yet, if you restore faded wooden outdoor furniture, you will be saving a big amount in your budget. Maybe one day you’d like to purchase another outdoor furniture, but it will be because you want a new design and style, and not because your furniture has faded and turned gray, rotten or damaged.

When you do buy new outdoor furniture, be sure to treat it with teak oil before it has time to fade. You will surely save time and money in doing so.
